There's no place like New York City. No place with better swagger or brighter lights, and no place with better hotdogs, better art, shopping or street cred. From recreating the Sex and the City lifestyle over cocktails in Greenwich Village to taking yourself out to a ballgame at Yankee Stadium or having a Gossip Girl moment at the top of the Empire State Building, or a When Harry Met Sally moment over a pastrami sandwich at Katz's Deli, New York is one of a kind. Book your cheap flights to New York with Student Flights and you'll have more money for all the NYC essentials: hotdogs, cupcakes and metro tickets. If you're a full-time student, teacher or aged under 26, you'll save even more on your airfares with our exclusive Black Market Flights.
Flights to New York can land at JFK, LaGuardia or Newark airports, but most international flights touch down at John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, just 19 kilometres southeast of Lower Manhattan. You can journey into New York City from the airport by subway or private shuttles but you can't go past stepping into an iconic yellow cab with a JFK flat fare (plus tolls) into Manhattan. For more information about the airlines that service JFK Airport, see our airline guide.
New York, as a city, will eat you alive - if you don't eat it first. Take a wholehearted bite of the Big Apple and run on that energy - you're going to need it for pounding the pavement, navigating the subway and queuing to ascend tall buildings. Here are a few tips: skip the queues at the Empire State and hit up the Rockefeller instead. Take a free ferry ride to Staten Island and pass the Statue of Liberty instead of joining a tour group from Battery Park. Lots of museums and galleries have a 'suggested entry fee' but you can pay a donation of your choice instead and every Saturday afternoon it's 'pay what you wish' at the Guggenheim - George Costanza would be proud of your thriftiness.
Central Park is a godsend - a magical oasis in the heart of the city. Stretch out in its grassy knolls in summer or ice skate in the winter. Be told a joke by a busking comedian, get your caricature drawn, fortune told or back massaged. Take a horsedrawn carriage ride, row out on the water or see a band play live - there is always something to discover in New York's playground. Walking tours are a great way to explore the city with a local. Our New York tours and holidays offer even more options.
